The alarm was raised by district nurse Gillian Powell when she heard a noise from the container while making a call on a patient.

She called colleague Georgina Holmes, who was in a health centre round the corner in Heaton Moor.

‘She was anxious about opening the bin because she didn’t know what she’d find,’ said Mrs Holmes.

NewsPietro Ferrero dies : Italian chocolate tycoon Pietro Ferrero has died in an accident in South Africa, a company spokesman has said.

Mr Ferrero, 48, was on a business trip and died after falling off his bicycle, probably because of an ailment, the company said.

He was joint chief executive - along with his brother - of the Ferrero group, which owns Nutella and Kinder.

His father Michele, Italy's richest man, turned the company into a global giant of the confectionery industry.

Andrew Ryan, 32, stole a copy of the holy book from Carlisle Library then set it on fire by a monument in the city of Carlisle.

Last month Emdadur Choudhury was fined after he burned a poppy outside the Royal Albert Hall in London on Remembrance Day while shouting 'British soldiers burn in hell'.

As he was led down to the cells, Ryan shouted at the judge at Carlisle Magistrates' Court today: 'What about burning poppies?'.
